Verities & Balderdash
--
the title of one of my favorite albums,
by the late, great Harry Chapin --
songs of life,
songs of the heart,
songs of humanity!
Our lives are a mixture of verities
(truths)
and balderdash (falsehoods):
genuiness, sincerity, honesty
mingled with a bit of
exaggeration, deception, cover-up.
Sometimes the ruse is intentional.
Some people set out to deceive others.
The internet, unfortunately, is a good place for that.
It is so easy to hide behind masks of our own making.
So easy to give others a wrong impression.
So easy to intentionally mislead.
But sometimes the ruse is accidental.
Sometimes we only deceive ourselves.
After all, who has not looked into a mirror and
seen there the image of what one wants to be,
rather than what one actually is?
And then looked at one's image in a photograph,
only to discover
that there is more truth in the latter
than in the former?
To a certain extent, we all see ourselves differently from how
others see us.
Sometimes we see our deficiencies
while others see our possibilities.
Sometimes we see only an inflated self image
while others see us in humbler light.
Here you'll learn all about me:
my interests and hobbies,
the people in my family,
my pets,
and more.
I've even included a list of my favorite links to other sites.
I'll give you the Verities.
But if there just happens to be
a bit of Balderdash
mingled in,
I hope you will forgive me.
